Eleven people injured at Brewers’ American Family Field after escalator malfunctions

Eleven people suffered injuries when an escalator malfunctioned at American Family Field following Saturday’s game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.

The malfunction caused the downward speed on an escalator to increase. Six people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, while five people were treated at the ballpark. The Brewers’ onsite physician and EMS responded immediately, the team said.

Chicago beat Milwaukee 5-3 in Saturday’s game. The division rivals will play Sunday at 2:10 p.m. ET to wrap up a three-game series.

Last December, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed a bill providing $500.8 million in public funding for improvements to American Family Field over the next 27 years. The Brewers’ lease at the ballpark had originally been set to expire in 2030, but the team will remain in Wisconsin until 2050 under the bill.
