Nate Diaz’s coach explains why the UFC should make the trilogy with Conor McGregor

With Nate Diaz just emerging victorious in his boxing bout with Jorge Masvidal, his coach believes it’s the perfect time for The UFC to pull the trigger on the trilogy fight with Conor McGregor.

The sporting juggernauts have faced off in two incredible match-ups, with the first going down as one of the greatest upsets of all time, and the second delivering a remarkable war of attrition that has cemented its place in MMA folklore.

Cesar Gracie wants The UFC to make Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 3

In a sport filled with incredible competitors desperate to break into superstardom, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, stand out as two of the highest-profile names in the business.

With opposing personalities, the pair of gifted fighters have plowed their own path, cementing their status as genuine icons.

The Irishman is a maverick, blessed with the gift of the gab and a dynamite left hand, while the Stockton native has captured the hearts of fans around the globe, with his gangster-esque attitude.

Ultimately, when matched together, the dynamic just works, with the monstrous PPV buys of 1.37 million and 1.65 million for each fight proving so.

However, with the pair currently tied at 1-1, the world still awaits the conclusion this rivalry deserves.

Therefore, with Diaz just earning his redemption over Jorge Masvidal in the ring, and McGregor’s contest with Michael Chandler, failing to come to fruition, the American’s coach, Cesar Gracie, has claimed that the timing for the trilogy couldn’t be any better.

He told Submission Radio: “Chandler and McGregor is a good fight, too. But, I mean, just the history of Nate and McGregor, I think it’d be the bigger fan fight if they had a trilogy. And in my opinion, that’s what I’m thinking.

“Nate doesn’t look like he’s really lost any steps lately. With McGregor, he’s been out of it for a while, and he hasn’t had a win in a long time. I would have to favor Nate on that one.

“His toughness, and he’s been in the game. And you know, it’s not good when guys come out and stay out that long from the game. It’s hard for them.

“And I think whether McGregor fights Chandler or someone else, I think he’s going to have a lot of trouble getting back to his peak performance.”

Cesar Gracie wants Nate Diaz to fight Leon Edwards again

While the decider between McGregor and Diaz is at the top of his wish list, Gracie would love his fighter to get another shot at Leon Edwards.

While the Californian has achieved a lot in his career, the coveted UFC world title has always eluded him. But now ‘Rocky’ has the belt, a shot at glory could be on the horizon.

In their first collision, Edwards dominated the fight, landing an array of lightning punches and kicks. However, in the dying seconds, everything changed.

Diaz detonated a thunderous left hand to put the Jamaican-born fighter on shaky legs. And while he didn’t finish the fight, his coach is adamant that his man wouldn’t let the 170-pound King off the hook this time around.

He explained: “Edwards is at the top of his game for sure. And the thing with Nate is, he just always has the tools to beat you. Edwards landed some absolutely devastating shots in their fight. I saw kicks, I saw punches, and he won some of the rounds.

“If we’re going to be perfectly honest, if there was another round left, I think all the fans realized that Edwards was about to get knocked out in that fight.”
