UFC fan favorite launches new MMA promotion backed by Dana White

UFC fan favorite Chan Sung Jung, better known as ‘The Korean Zombie’ has launched his very own MMA promotion in Korea, called ZFN, and their inaugural event will take place on June 29 at Korea University in Seoul.

Former UFC featherweight title contender, Chan Sung Jung, retired from competition in August last year, after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Max Holloway, in Singapore.

A year prior to that, ‘The Korean Zombie’ fought then featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, for the 145lb title, losing in the fourth round.

‘The Korean Zombie’ starts new MMA promotion in Korea

Since announcing his retirement from the sport, the 37-year-old has been working behind the scenes on starting his own MMA promotion, in his home country of South Korea.

UFC CEO, Dana White, took to Instagram this past Tuesday to announce that ‘TKZ’s’ ZFN would be streaming on UFC Fight Pass.

“What’s up everybody, I just wanted to let you know, fan favorite and one of my all-time favorites, The Korean Zombie has just launched his own MMA promotion that you can watch live on UFC Fight Pass,” White began in a video on his Instagram.

“His first event is Saturday, June 29th, the kicker is, it’s at 6am on the East Coast, 7pm Korea Standard Time, live from Korea University in Seoul. Congratulations Korean Zombie and I look forward to seeing your shows, buddy,” the UFC boss added.

‘The Korean Zombie’ joins a host of UFC fighters in launching MMA promotion

The 37-year-old joins a host of fellow former UFC fighters in launching his own MMA promotion, with it seemingly one of the most common pastimes for retired fighters.

Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, although not retired launched his own MMA promotion called African Knockout in 2020, with the events taking place in Nigeria, and giving African fighters a path into the sport.

His UFC rival, Jorge Masvidal, also launched his own combat sports promotion Gamebred FC, in 2021, with the likes of Jason Knight fighting under the banner.

Possibly most notable of all is Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s Eagle FC, launched in 2020 as a rebrand of Gorilla FC. Former UFC interim lightweight title challenger, Kevin Lee, claimed gold with the promotion, and the likes of Rashad Evans and Impa Kasanganay have also fought with the Russian outfit.
