It’s been more than 10 years since gamers and college football fanatics have been treated to an NCAA football game — but the wait for EA Sports College Football 25 is nearly over.
Fans have been clamoring for years for a new way to play a video game version of college football. When EA Sports stopped making new NCAA Football games in 2013, it left gamers to settle for Madden or another sport to play online with friends.
However, it’s a new era in the console world, as EA Sports College Football 25 is on the horizon. The game is going to allow fans to play as their favorite college football program, and is expected to sweep the nation once it drops.
There are many questions surrounding the game, with EA Sports keeping most of the details close to the chest. But what is already out there about it?

EA Sports College Football 25 new features
EA Sports confirmed a number of game modes included in EA Sports College Football 25 on its website May 17. Road to Glory, Dynasty and Ultimate Team will return in the latest installment in the franchise.
Dynasty will allow players to create a coach, take over a team and build a powerhouse from the ground up. Users can go 30 years into each Dynasty and also now will have the ability to control 32 teams. One of the bigger notes is that online Dynasty mode will not be available for crossplay. There is the opportunity to create customs, teams conferences and schedules in the mode as well.
Despite the emergence of NIL in reality, it will not be a part of the game — yet. When the game was being developed, NIL was controlled by collectives, not the coaches and schools. That has since changed, but EA did not want to include an outdated aspect into the new game.
In Road to Glory, players can create a student-athlete and play through their college career. The biggest change in that game mode is that players will not start in high school like previous iterations of the game.
You can manage your weekly schedule, GPA and even enter the transfer portal. Ultimate Team will let players build teams using college stars and legends, similar to the same mode in the “Madden” game franchise.
The game will introduce a new mode titled “Road to the College Football Playoff.” Players can take over a team and try and make it all the way to the playoffs and National Championship. EA Sports teased this as a competitive mode, so it’s possible you’ll be able to play this mode online with friends, though that is not confirmed.
The game is also bringing back old gameplay features from previous installments. Its CampusIQ gameplay system promises new in-game passing mechanics, ratings that will fluctuate during games, a fatigue system so you know when players need to temporarily leave the field, pre-snap recognition and home-field advantage.
Fans of that last feature should be familiar with what that means. If you’re playing in hostile territory and the fans get loud, expect your screen to shake your pre-snap icons to look jumbled and confused.
New gameplay features include player abilities, a wide range of mental and physical abilities designed to create separation between highly skilled players and inexperienced freshmen. There will also be a unique playbook for each of the 134 FBS schools featured in the game.
For fans who want to play online, cross-play is included for players using a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. If you own one of those systems, but your friend owns the other, you can still play each other online.
EA Sports also promises realistic and iconic atmospheres. Pre-game run-outs, rivalry rituals, fight songs and mascot will all be reflected accurately in the game. The trailer released May 17 shows some of those moments in action, with players from Notre Dame touching the “Play like a champion today” sign before taking the field.
The game will also utilize a fun, new broadcasting system. If your team is playing in a marquee game, Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler will be on the call. That should add plenty of excitement to all the must-win games a team will face during a season. Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, and Rece Davis will call the rest of the games.
What consoles is EA Sports College Football 25 on?
So far, the only confirmed consoles that the game will be available on is PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S — the latest version of each console.
It remains to be seen if other platforms will carry EA Sports College Football 25, which include PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
