Dolphins sign star player to contract extension

The Miami Dolphins have signed one of their key players to a long-term contract extension, but their quarterback will still have to wait for his new deal.

Jaylen Waddle has agreed to a three-year, $84.75 million extension with the Dolphins, according to multiple reports. The deal includes $76 million in guaranteed money.

Waddle’s contract makes him the fourth highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL in terms of average annual value. The only wide receivers with a higher annual salary are Waddle’s teammate Tyreek Hill, Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown, and A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Dolphins drafted Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in 2021. He has had more than 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first three NFL seasons. Waddle had 72 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games last season.

With Waddle now locked up long term, the big question is whether Tagovailoa will have a new contract before the start of the 2024 season. Some details recently emerged about the negotiations between the two sides.
