Stars vs. Oilers schedule: Edmonton, fresh off comeback win, heads to Dallas for Game 5 of WCF

The Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers will face off in a crucial Game 5 on Friday night. The Oilers tied the series with a comeback win in Game 4, and the winner of tonight’s matchup will be one victory away from the Stanley Cup Final.

This series has been prone to huge momentum swings, as was the case for both games in Edmonton. The Stars and Oilers took turns overcoming 2-0 deficits to win Games 3 and 4, respectively, and there were encouraging signs for both sides.

Stars forward Jason Robertson broke out of a 10-game slump with a hat trick that pushed his team to victory in Game 3, and the Oilers were finally able to get their offense humming for an extended period of time in Game 4. Connor McDavid added a pair of assists to his already impressive playoff numbers, and Leon Draisaitl netted his 10th goal of the postseason.

Going into Game 5, the status of Stars defenseman Chris Tanev will be worth watching. He blocked an Evander Kane shot in the second period of Game 4 and did not return. In his postgame press conference, Stars head coach Pete DeBoer was just hoping his top shutdown defenseman would be able to recover quickly.

“Fingers crossed he’ll be good for the next game,” DeBoer said.

This series has been back-and-forth, but Game 5 should be the most intense to date. Teams that take a 3-2 lead in Game 5 have gone on to win the series 78.8% of the time throughout NHL history.
